Modern technology allows you to use the TV to view photos and videos encoded in almost any way, many of them allow you to even go online or play simple games without the help of prefixes, but of course, not everyone can afford a new TV - but even in this If you do, you can still connect your TV through your computer!

Depending on the country in which the TV is produced and at what time, the input connectors for receiving the signal on it can be different. The standards for image and sound transmission do not stand still, and we will try to cover those that have been used or are still used and suggest the use of the TV as a means of outputting information from a third-party source (in our case, from a computer).

One of the first standardized connectors used to transmit video and audio signals is SCART. Recently, it is almost impossible to meet it on new TV sets, but old TVs of European production and some models of Japanese TV sets intended for sale in other countries were equipped with them. The connector has a large number of contacts, which allows you to send both video and audio in a two-channel format. Below you can see what the SCART connector looks like.

However, the cumbersome size of the connector, the sensitivity to interference and interference, some problems associated with contact damage - all this makes the use of SCART adapters not the most convenient, but if there is no solution, then you can use one of the many adapters. In this case, the video signal can be obtained from various sources.

If, for example, your video card has an S-Video connector, then you can use special adapter cables to use this connector in conjunction with SCART. At different times, the video cards were equipped with two kinds of these sockets, with four and seven contacts. The analog nature of the signal produces minimal distortion when output to the TV, but the output of the audio signal will have to be done separately. To output the audio signal, you can use RCA connectors, known to everyone as "tulips". Due to the wide distribution of SCART adapters with RCA input, the use of tulips and the corresponding S-Video coupler can be almost the only option, since these parts of the circuit can still be found on sale. In addition, to capture sound, you can use RST-connectors of various form factors, especially since they have a sufficiently large number of different devices-adapters. Photo RST-connectors I will not give, tk. formats of this connector are huge, and at any electronic point on the market you can consult these connectors from the seller.

The basic rule that should be adhered to is to achieve "identical" connectors on both sides, that is, both on the computer and on the TV. As soon as you succeed, you can use the highest quality cable that you can find - this minimizes the loss of picture and sound quality during transmission.

The above standards are used to transmit an analog signal. Due to physical limitations on the output, you can get a picture not of the highest quality, so if you have a more or less modern computer with a good graphics card, it is best to use the digital transmission channel.

"The first swallow" in this direction was the invention of the DVI connector. It allowed to transmit video in digital format over significant distances with virtually no loss, which was actively used for projectors (in addition, it used a VGA-format, which has analog-digital nature). There are several transmission standards in this format, they differ in the bandwidth of the transmission channel. In the photo below, I showed a DVI format connector.

However, DVI also had some limitations - the standard absolutely did not assume the transfer of audio information in either analog or digital form. It was supposed to have a common audio system, which took over the processing of audio. However, this was not always convenient, and a new format was developed that allows to transmit both audio signal and video. It is considered the standard of digital media transmission in the modern world.

HDMI - this is the name for this standard, it allowed to transmit and receive the signal in high quality practically without loss. From the point of view of the home user, this is the best transmission option, since no additional adapters and loops are required. However, the limitations imposed by the format may seem inconvenient for those who have a computer far from the TV - finding a long wire is almost impossible. But even in this case, it is possible to cheat a little by outputting the video through the DVI connector, by starting the audio with a separate channel and taking it all in HDMI on the final device. It is important to properly set the TV to receive the signal. Typically, the TV control program itself can recognize the sources of multimedia, but older TVs may need to scan the frequency grid to determine the received "channel". In the case of using pure RCA, you can use the AV input channel (audio-video), or the composite input intended for inputting an image from S-Video, but, in most cases, allows you to connect other types of signals.

New technologies allow the TV to accurately detect the flow of digital data, if it is, of course, available, so if DVI or HDMI problems occur, problems should not arise. If any, check all connected cables for continuity, perhaps there is simply no signal somewhere due to a damaged or clogged cable.

In addition, it is possible to transfer multimedia data through local networks. There are several options: direct access to a computer's pre-opened discs (or separate folders where multimedia files are located), while a TV with this function can simply be on the local network via cable or wireless devices, or - playback of a broadcast stream , both audio and video, it is better to use a wired network, ideally from 1000 megabits. There are also several technologies that are a combination of these two methods, for example DLNA or similar technology from Apple. If you managed to find the right combination of connectors for your computer and TV, then it's time to proceed with the settings.
